DIY: Sneak Peek

I went to Michael's today to pick up some supplies for my next little wedding project: DIY photo booth props! They are ALL OVER Etsy for about $25, so I decided to make my own for $10.
Here is a little sneak peek of my materials before I start

I wanted to buy the pack of dowels already pre-cut but Michael's was sold out. Instead, I bought the three foot 3/16" dowels at $.029 a piece and plan on cutting it in thirds, hence the saw.

I will be starting on this project tomorrow because this girl is headed to the midnight premiere of Magic Mike!!

That's right ladies, just because I'm engaged to get hitched does not mean I can't feast my eyes on those ABS!

For all you True Blood lovers out there, hellooooo Alcide!!

Okay, I'm gonna pick my jaw up, stop drooling and go sip on a cocktail before enjoying this cinematic masterpiece haha!

Have a great night!

DIY Mercury Glass

Across the blogosphere and on Pinterest, I have seen several tutorials for DIY mercury glass. As a huge mercury glass fan, I thought I would give it a shot, especially since we are using mercury glass at the wedding. Here is my attempt and thoughts on DIY mercury glass:

First of all, I want to start off by sharing some gorgeous mercury glass vases with not so pretty price tags. This first one is courtesy of West Elm (love!) for $19, which is not that bad.

The next one is from Pottery Barn for $79.00...WHAT?! I'm sorry, but who has $79 to drop on a vase?? Well, probably lots of people but definitely not me!

When I decided to try this out myself, I used two mercury glass lanterns that I already owned as a visual while I followed the tutorial. You might remember these guys from this post:

I got both of them from Ross for $5.99 each!

So, I went to Hobby Lobby to buy this:
Krylon Looking Glass spray paint ($11.99 i think?)
Expensive, but the only kind that works.

Then I followed this tutorial (minus the vinegar) and voila!

Now, in this picture, the vase that I painted (on the right) looks like plain silver
but in this picture (below),
You can actually see the mercury glass effect.

Here is one more with the "candlelight" setting on my camera:

While I wish mine had come out looking more like the lantern on the left, I think the overall effect is pretty good! Next time, I will definitely try to 'chip' away at the paint before it dries to give it more of the speckled glass effect.

What do y'all think? Would you ever give DIY mercury glass a twirl?
I will definitely be giving it another shot!

Last week I had to go to Alpharetta to find one of our centerpieces and decided to stop in at HomeGoods while I was up there. We have one here in Buckhead, too, but I never pass up a chance to check out the new goodies at one of my favorite stores!

Here are a few of the things that I know were dying to go home with me :)

Awesome silver bowl

Let Them Eat Cake!

I have been contemplating the design of our wedding cake recently and CANNOT make up my mind as to the  "look" I want to go for. Hello indecisiveness, have we met? I'm Ashley and cannot quit you.

Anywho, here are some designs that I am considering, all courtesy of Pinterest:

gold + white

pink pearl

white ruffle

scalloped ruffle

silver pearl
(minus the toppers)

peony love

pink + pearls + flowers

ruffles and some bling!

more modern but really like the style

quatrefoil design = amazing!

While this design decision probably won't be made for another month or two, it doesn't stop me from drooling over these gorgeous cakes! Is anyone else hungry? Can I have a slice of cake now?!

Pillow Talk

I was browsing around Garden Ridge last week and stumbled upon aisle after aisle of pillows...there literally had to be hundreds of them! While some of them looked grandma-ish, there were several cute options!

These ikat pillows were $12.99 each!

Two of these currently reside on my sofa...

Love the punch of blue!

Pink and green ikat would look great in a little girl's room

This guy came home to live with me, as well ....love the pattern!

This is another option for a girl's room...modern, yet stylish!

Black and silver chevron sequins? Yes, please!

I bought both of these to spruce up the cocktail hour at the wedding.
One was $14.99 and the other was $9.99...what a steal!

Who knew Garden Ridge had such great options?! Happy Shopping :)

Flower Inspiration

My mom and I went to meet with our florist today and it is so hard for me to choose which flowers to use, especially in my bouquet. I fully blame the plethora of images on the internet (I'm looking at you, Pinterest!). Anyways, I stumbled upon this post today from Wedding Wire and loved all the purple and white details!

Aren't the white vases with the purple flowers a stunning combo?

Love the chevron runner and tall centerpieces!

Silver chargers? Yes, please!

Chevron cake + purple flower detail = Perfection

I just love everything about this wedding... what about you?
